(Hosting-NewsWire.com, November 21, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Mozilla reported a 31% increase in income from search partners last year, spiked in part due to a nearly $1 billion deal made with rival search engine company Google. Mozilla’s royalties from last year were $161.9 million, up from $123.2 million earned in 2010. Almost all of the income came from rival search services from Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and others. The three-year deal, struck in 2011, pays the Mozilla Foundation, the not-for-profit organization that runs Mozilla Corp., for leading the users of Mozilla’s Firefox Web browser to their websites. As a result of the deal, royalty payments generated in 2011 accounted for 99 percent of the year’s income. That figure is slightly less than the revenue generated by search during the previous three years, partly due to losses in other areas, such as investments or currency exchanges, which resulted in the total being below that of royalties. Mozilla develops Firefox for use on not only desktop and laptop personal computers, but Macs, tablets and smartphones as well. According to the financial statement released Thursday, Mozilla saw total revenues of $163.5 million in 2011, up 35% from 2010’s total revenue of $121.1 million. It is unlikely that the boost in income can be attributed to users choosing Firefox as their browser of choice as the global share of the market for Firefox has slipped to 16%in the past 12 months. According to reports, the deal struck between Mozilla and Google require the search engine leader to pay Mozilla nearly $300 million annually to keep its search engine the default in Firefox. Neither company has confirmed the amount of the agreement, which was initially made public in December 2011. About 1st Level Backlinks:
