(Hosting-NewsWire.com, November 14, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Marketers are planning to put more money into digital efforts such as blogs and online reviews in 2013. A September survey of North American marketers found that 35.9% had plans to increase spending on digital initiatives next year, compared with 6.8% that intend to spend less. The research was conducted by Balihoo, a local-marketing automation company. Many marketers have engaged in digital strategies. The study found 69.3% used social media marketing, 50.3% used search-engine optimization and display ads, 46.4% used local websites, and 44.3% pay-per-click ads. Some are planning to add digital efforts -- 31.5% will use local blogs, 31% online consumer reviews and 35.4% mobile marketing. Local search registration appears to be in decline, according to the Balihoo report. That tactic, once popular among businesses, consists of creating a listing in local directories provided by Yahoo, Google Places, Yellow Pages or similar sites. Fewer than one in four marketers now use local search registration, the survey found. Consumers have been changing how they seek local business information. The use of mobile devices and social media to learn about companies and product ratings has become more common More than half of the national brands in the survey advertise their products through local affiliates. These dealers, resellers, and retailers can help build awareness of the brand, but the national companies report dissatisfaction with their marketing. Less than half – 47.8% -- said affiliates were not visible enough online, and almost a third said affiliates’ websites were dated. Search-engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising also were weaknesses among affiliates, according to the survey. One area of strength for affiliates was marketing through social media, although the medium is less effective than SEO and pay-per-click ads. Another study has found non retail sites important for retail activity. Before making a purchase, 90% of online shoppers went to at least two non retail sites, according to Forrester Research.
