(Hosting-NewsWire.com, November 11, 2012 ) Victoria, Australia- Roamz is a new startup company that launched its mobile application with a focus on local searches. The company is now bringing local search engines to the web.
The company debuted an online version of its service of Roamz.com, which allows users to get a real-time view of content regarding nearby events and businesses.
The functionality is currently available via Roamz’ mobile applications, which available on Android and iPhone.
In a guest post on TechCrunch in July, Jonathan Barouch, talked about the company coming to understand it’s last venture “serendipity searches” was not enough of a motivation. The following month, Roamz relaunched a new version, called ‘serendipity’, which focused directly on local searchers.
Users can still access various application features to enable serendipitous discovery; however, the applications’ main function is delivering local recommendations instead. Roamz will pull its data from social media platforms such as Facebook, Foursquare, Yelp, and Twitter. In the relaunch, it allows users to query against the data more directly. For instance, if one types in ‘pizza’ and a location, such as a borough or neighborhood.
Barouch did not give numbers about downloads since the relaunching of the application. He stated that engagement is up due to the local-based alerts, which tell users when they are near a new trending event or location.
The online version of the application is identical to the app itself, except for being on a larger format. You can perform similar searches like other social media applications, Roamz is not limited to a single company’s, instead compiling from a collective.
Those interested in the application can download it at Roamz.com, where you must allow the browser access your location. Then you can type in what you are looking for.
