(Hosting-NewsWire.com, November 09, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Stanislaus is attempting to get a health care call center placed in its borders in order to help people buy affordable insurance or enroll into MediCal when provisions to health reform takes place in 2014.
If the county is chosen, the California Health Benefit Exchange service center could mean over 140 jobs for the area, said an official.
The county’s Community Services Agency began to explore the partnership with the state and it will ask the county supervisors for mission to develop on Tuesday.
The center would be slated as one of three sites that could handle eligibility and enrollment functions for the CE in 2014. That is when the federal law will require people to have health insurance and will extend MediCal eligibility to an additional 1.4 million state residents.
The HBE is independent and is a public entity that can be a key player for assistant with the new law in California. According to reports, there will be large service centers in North and South California in order to assist the uninsured with obtaining health coverage, regular insurance, and also MediCal benefits.
Contra Costa, Sacramento, and Stanislaus were the counties that sent letters of interest in September. The state wishes to review full proposals from the counties by November 16.
It is estimated that anywhere from 60 to 140 employees would work within the center. The facility would receive calls from all corners of California. The jobs would be based directly on volume of calls.
The county staff will research its capability to house 25,000 square feet of office space that is necessary. The California exchange is slated to cover startup costs, as well as reimburse the county of its choice for the general operating costs.
The entire project will move rather rapidly, as the outcome of the election could shift outcome of the project, as Mitt Romney has vowed to repeal President Obama’s 2010 healthcare law.
