(Hosting-NewsWire.com, February 02, 2016 ) Little Rock, Arkansas -- Every year at this time, small business owners start thinking more about how to get more traffic to their websites using video. But plenty of people put it off to the last minute. And then they're scrambling to figure out the best way, which means they usually end up dumping money into some publication add that fails to bring them the results they were looking for or throwing up some random video.
"Every year right around January I get a big rush of people who want me to help them get more traffic to their site, "says Carrie Gibson, owner of Mobile Site Army. "But I'm usually backed up by then. The people who get the best traffic from video marketing are the ones who get started and keep doing it."
That's why Gibson and others in the industry encourage people to start incorporating video into everything they are doing.
Those who get it done early tend to enjoy better rankings on the search engine results pages, more traffic and more engagement with their customers. And these early birds also learn to find more and more ways to use videos to get traffic and sell their products and services.
However, Gibson does note that even those who're starting to use video marketing can run into frustrating delays.
In fact, she says that most people tend to make the same three mistakes when they're trying to market with video for the sake of traffic. And those who make all three of these mistakes tend to waste the most time and money.
1. The first mistake, says Gibson, is to not predetermine what the goal of their video's marketing message is. When you don't know for sure what action you want the viewer to take you cannot direct them to do it or gear the content towards this. Sometimes the goal might be to sign up for a newsletter, call and make an appointment, watch another video, like their Facebook page or other desired action. Not thinking of this when creating your video causes your message to be less than clear.
2. Another common mistake is to think their videos have to be perfect and cost a lot of money. This in many instances makes them less appealing than down-home, realistic videos of business owners giving tips, demonstrating products and the like. Our viewers know we are not in the entertainment industry. They just want to engage with you, your brand and your products. When business owners quit thinking like this and start looking for more and more ways to be authentic while getting their message out there using the video channel they will start seeing results.
3. Finally, Gibson also notes that she sees a lot of people forgetting a call to action. Confused people do not take action. If you want them to click like, tell them to. If you want them to sign up tell them to. And when possible show them by arrows or pointing in your videos.
"I think people are getting smarter about marketing with video while learning just how this new medium fits with their business' personality and brand," Gibson says. I expect that this year we're going to see a lot more local, small business owners using video."
The statistics tend to agree. Last year video really started to climb. This year, however, that number is expected to continue to increase - it's now expected to account for 97% of all traffic by 2017. And these new trends have a lot of people trying to catch up. However, as businesses learn that it is not as hard as they thought, and discover video marketing services that can help, they will embrace this trend and adapt.
