(Hosting-NewsWire.com, December 17, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Twitter has officially announced a new photo feature that will allow users to add color filters, which has been a staple for photo website Instagram in the past months.
With the intense rivalry between Twitter and Facebook on a continuous high alert, both social networking sites are always looking to one up their opponents. Just weeks ago, Facebook bought the rights to Instagram for $715 billion, which severely hurt Twitter, which had been using Instagram to link photos for months.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the move was a vital one for his company to gain an edge in the social networking market. According to Zuckerberg, one of the main reasons people like using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is because of the ability to share photos. People would always rather see something than read about it and the entire social networking idea is based around photos.
With the purchase of Instagram by Facebook, Twitter has been forced to improve in other areas of photo manipulation, which may explain its latest color filter stunt. As photo sharing becomes more and more popular, Twitter will need to corner the market if it wants any chance of competing with Facebook in the future. Because video sharing has not caught on at the pace of photo sharing, it is crucial for both companies to exploit any new opportunities in order to continue to gain an edge.
The new Twitter photo feature will also be part of the update to the iPhone and Android Twitter applications in order to spread what hopes to be a new craze as quickly as possible. Starting Monday, the update should be available and only time will tell how popular the new feature will be. Nevertheless, competition between Facebook and Twitter will most likely be a never ending one. With so many technological advances in this day in age, the rivalry will inevitably weigh in one direction, but it looks as of now that the near future will see a continued rivalry between the two social networking giants in today’s world.
