(Hosting-NewsWire.com, December 16, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- It appears Microsoft is attempting to paint Google as a poor holiday shopping guide, as its latest attempt to divert traffic to its own search engine, Bing.
The smear campaign began last Wednesday, when the company focused on the changes that Google implemented to its search engine's shopping results. The revisions require any merchant to pay Google for their post to show up in the shopping section.
The new ads portraits Google Inc's betrayal of a longstanding commitment to provide trustworthy results on the web, and how it appears they have bent to the almighty dollar.
To underline its point, Microsoft is imparting unto consumers that they risk being “scroogled” when relaying on the Google shopping service.
The Microsoft anti-Google message will be punctuated by TV commercials that are scheduled to run on NBC as well as CNN. The company also plans to run ads in major new publications like the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
The new campaign is sure to cause more fluster in an already pithy back-and-forth between the companies.
Google is currently dominating internet searches, and Bing is running a distant second place. Microsoft's Office and Windows software still holds its place as an integral part of personal computing, but Google has been marginalizing the important of desktops and laptops through its success of Web-based services on Android operating systems for smartphones and tablets.
When it comes to search engine searches, Google does not require websites to pay in order to remain in the main database. However, to be within the shopping section, prices are used to apply significance. In the shopping-only section, searches are confined to pay-only companies. Google defense the fee-based usage, saying that it provides a more accurate presentation of what the companies are selling.
I think you just get a well-organised set of product information, ways to buy it, and really have a great experience there," CEO Larry Page said during a conference call with analysts last month.
