(Hosting-NewsWire.com, October 07, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA, - According to Monday’s Post, the European investors who bought the New York Islanders are attempting to bring back Pat LaFontaine in a bid to help keep the team in Long Island.
Islanders owner Charles Wang is currently looking to sell off the franchise. Wang is seeking a new deal when the current agreement expires on 2015, saying that the team will not be at the Nassau Coliseum if he still owns it.
The citizens of Nassau County already removed the option for a new venue in their backyard, as they voted down a motion in 2011.
The only option available for the club to remain in New York is to move it to Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Unfortunately for the Islanders, the arena holds a modest 14,500.
The Post reported that a price tag of $300 million is likely to be a deterrent to most possible buyers.
LaFontaine has been away from the franchise since 2005, when Rangers GM Neil Smith was put on as general manager, and quickly fired by Wang six weeks later.
LaFontaine tallied 468 goals and over 1,000 points in 865 games with the Isles, Sabres, and Rangers in what was a 15-year NHL career.
