(Hosting-NewsWire.com, September 23, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- After the passing of 87-year-old Art Modell, the founder and owner of the Baltimore Ravens, the team continues toward success in memoriam. Ray Lewis delivered a passionate and emotion-filled eulogy in memory of Modell. He also embraced a new strength of the Baltimore squad: Offense.
The team has made a few new changes. One of these changes involves switching to a no-huddle strategy, wherein the offense keeps the defensive package on the field as they hurry to the line. This, in order to attempt to confuse and tire the defense with a sense of urgency and high pacing.
Defensive coordinator cam Cameron is willing to embrace the new strategy along with the no- huddle system. The Ravens now are looking at a system where they have a go-for-broke offense to complement their hard-hitting and often brutal defense.
Baltimore finished up its AFC best 430-yards offensive effort in its routing of the Cincinnati on Sunday. Lewis commented on the offense by saying, “I have been here a long time,” reflects the thirty-seven year old, “You can finish that off for me.”
“You watch all the great offenses around the league, they are really moving to the fast-break offense," Lewis told reporters, "and for us to go to it right now with all the pieces we have, I think it's a great thing."
Meanwhile, Quarterback Joe Flacco, is expected to thrive within Cameron’s new plan. Lewis commented on his teammate’s performance, “Trust me, I am pro-Joe because he has proved himself year in and year out."
The same can, and is, said about Lewis, who is a consistent Pro-Bowler himself, and has one Super Bowl under his belt. He is nonetheless eager for a second championship as his career reaches its waning years.
The Ravens look like strong contenders for the Super Bowl this year, with players performing better than the team has seen in near a decade. The team’s offense has not ranked higher than fifteenth in total yards in over a decade, and the new move to a cut-throat offense could be a positive turn from their usual cerebral pace of years past.
"I know a lot of people are putting emphasis on our offense and what our offense does," Lewis said. "But we've always believed in our offense. Joe has a lot of pieces now that he can really play with."
Other teams are definitely recognizing the team’s performance, particularly Flacco’s newfound skill and speed in his new position. "I think the offense suits him," Eagles coach Andy Reid told reporters on a conference call. "What they're doing with the hurry-up game, I think he handled that very well. ... I like what they're doing. It was effective the other night. They're playing good football."
The Ravens’ coach agrees by stating that they are not only good, they are “Scary good.”
