download This 1 min video shows it all - the drop and run over test (Hosting-NewsWire.com, July 20, 2015 ) Fremont, California -- To demonstrate how strong the THRIVE Solar Lights are, which claims to be designed for rugged conditions, the THRIVE Solar Lantern was dropped and then run over by a car - as shown in the YouTube video. It passed several durability tests and remained intact and functional.
The product's Amazon listing describes the THRIVE Solar Lantern to be durable despite its light-weight feature, only weiging 3 ounces. The body of the solar light is made out of ABS recycled plastics, making it strong enough to withstand the normal bangs and knocks.
However, the challenge was to test the THRIVE Solar Light to the extreme by dropping it several times on cement, and then by running it over with a car repeatedly. Aside from some scratches, the device remained intact and fully functional.
Most other handheld solar lighting products consist of fragile solar panels that would shatter under impact. The panels in the THRIVE Solar Light did not because they were protected with lamination within the plastic body.
Originally, the solar lights were made for the 2.3 billion people in the developing world who have to live off-grid every day. The simple look and feel of the THRIVE Solar Lights is very practical. The objective for the socially-minded manufacturer, THRIVE Solar Energy, was to keep its cost down while maintaining high quality. Most of the 2.3 billion who live without electricity only earn less than US$2.50 per day.
Other YouTube videos demonstrate the solar lantern's features, like the quality of the solar panel and the waterproofness. It is meant to withstand the elements of remote areas, under rain and shine.
The THRIVE Solar Lantern that underwent the durability tests is sold in over 15 countries. It is touted as the most inexpensive yet high-quality solar LED light in the world.
