(Hosting-NewsWire.com, July 24, 2013 ) SAN DIEGO, CA, July 23, 2013 – The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA)—the leading association for today’s technology services organizations—has issued a new report titled “Cloud Computing: Build the Right Foundation Now,” authored by Julia Stegman, TSIA vice president of service revenue generation research. The report focuses on building value-added services for growth and profitability.
The recently released report reveals lessons from the cloud early movers, stating that cloud computing is a conundrum—on one hand, it could deliver the full potential of technology to customers through ease of use and improved return on investment. Or, it could accelerate the commoditization of technology, which is truly daunting for technology companies. The report discusses a case in point: Amazon launched their cloud offering, Amazon Web Services (AWS), in 2006, and they have decreased the price for accessing AWS 30 times.
The report also discusses how the early movers in cloud computing have differentiated themselves from on-premise providers in a number of ways. One of which was to give away services at no charge. They emphasized to prospective customers that there are no maintenance fees to pay, and support is included in the price of access to the cloud technology. They were the “rebels” of the technology industry. However, TSIA has observed strong shifts away from the “1.0 cloud business model,” where support services were given away for free. In fact, fee-based value-added services are alive and well in this next evolution of cloud computing business models.
“There are many myths about cloud computing business models,” says Stegman. “This new report communicates the facts on free vs. fee-based value-added services for the cloud.”
TSIA members may access the report on the TSIA website.
