(Hosting-NewsWire.com, April 13, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- When it comes to the Dubai Study center scam at the University of Madras, there appears to be no clear way out of the infamy. It was recently learned that the Syndicate has now sought another legal opinion regarding the matter to determine just how to proceed in handling the totality of punishment pointed toward the accused group, including professor Mohan Ram.
When the matter recently came up for discussion, it was decided that it was important to gather a secondary legal opinion before proceeding on the committee report which had implicated Ram and 15 others.
Vice Chancellor R. Rhandavan noted to a source that within the committee report there were contradictions that must be rectified before proceeding. “One of the committee members said that the previous administration was also culpable. We have to be cautious, otherwise it will end up in legal wrangles. So we have decided to seek a legal opinion,” he said.
Meanwhile, syndicate members have noted that the move was unnecessary given that the different committees have already ascertained the general facts. Even if there were doubts regarding whether more individuals were involved, those individuals could likely be dealt without separately without any concern for legal ramifications. “This is going to delay a closure to this scam once more,” said a senior member.
The scam had originally surfaced in 2010 in relation to the Campus Educational Institute in Karama, Dubai, which was started by an NRI, Nandan Balakrishnan.
In October, of 2012, the center was due for payment for over $300,000 even whilst the owner was absconded. Despite many efforts made to collect the money, they were criticized as slack in many areas. A plea from CM's cell in 2011 was directed to the university to initiate the necessary actions, and Mohan Ram was placed under suspicion the following year.
