(Hosting-NewsWire.com, December 16, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- A strong push from Samsung has placed the company at the top of the viral ad list, as it employed LeBron James, poked fun at Apple, and even used popular memes to make its case.
The company out of South Korea topped the list that was released Wednesday with the most viral tech ads of 2012. It also held the most Top-10 ads in the same listing.
Topping the list was the Samsung Apple spoof, wherein fans waited for hours to get their iPhone 5. In the ad, the Apple-ites waited in a long line while cheerful Galaxy S III owners touted their new Samsung phones, complete with gadgets that Apple lacks.
The ad ran during the leadup to the launch of the iPhone 5s release, during the time when apple fans were actually waiting for the phone. The ad apparently worked, according to Virval Measures, which analyzes ads used online. Nearly 72 million probable and possible customers of the products were reached.
LeBron James was used to help Samsung in an ad for the Galaxy Note II. The commercial used James and his family, which over 42 million saw. The ad was third in the Top 10 listing. Samsung also health the fourth and eighth spot with other ads.
Toshiba took second place with its “The Beauty Inside” advertisment, reaching 54 million views.
Google had two Top 10 ads. The Mountain View California ad, which introduced the its Project Glass smart glasses, and the Nexus 7 tablet were on the listing.
Apple made only a single appearance on the list, grabbing sixth place. That marks a large drop for the Cupertino company. It held the first place spot last year.
"Apple's performance in video advertising hasn't grown much in 2012 while the competition has exploded," Viral Measures said in the release for the list. "To stay competitive in video in 2013, Apple will need to rethink its video strategy."
