(Hosting-NewsWire.com, October 07, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- Hurricanes President and General Manager Jim Rutherford announced that Carolina’s NHL team had signed Jeremy Welsh to a two-year contract.
The contract had a 2012-2013 option for Welsh to make $700,000 at the NHL level, or $105,000 at the minor-league level. The salary will increase to $1 million if Welsh plays in the NHL.
Welsh, 23, made his debut for the Hurricanes in 2011-2012 season in the team’s final game of the season. He totaled 16 minutes of playtime and racked up two minor penalties.
Welsh recorded 44 points on 27 goals and 17 assists in 40 games for Union College. UC is in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). Welsh was ranked first in the team and was fourth in the NCAA with rankings with his 27 goals.
Welsh’s postseason work was also impressive for the Dutchmen, has he amassed a five-game goal-scoring streak, and helped lead the Union to its first Frozen Four berth and eventual ECAC Hockey Championship.
He was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for March, Most Outstanding Player of the ECAC Championship, and Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA East Regional game.
Welsh reached 100 points in his 119 game college career spanning three years.
